Porcelain Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How long should a porcelain patio last?

One of the major benefits of porcelain is it’s longevity and durability in comparison to other patio options such as natural stone. If properly installed and maintained, a porcelain patio should last for decades. As porcelain is non-porous, the tiles are far more resistant to general wear-and-tear and will maintain their colour and design for significantly longer.

Can you jet wash a porcelain patio?

Yes, porcelain tiles can be jet washed / pressure washed. Whilst there are usually more effective methods of cleaning tougher markings, porcelain is strong enough to withstand a jet wash without incurring damage.

Is porcelain a good tile for a patio?

Yes, porcelain has all the desired qualities for an outdoor patio area. In comparison to other options for a patio, such as natural stone, porcelain is significantly more durable and lower maintenance.

Does Porcelain chip easily?

Porcelain is manufactured under intense heat, with temperatures exceeding 1000 degrees Celsius. This creates a very dense and compact tile, making porcelain incredibly durable. As a result, it would require a significant impact to crack porcelain and, if installed correctly, it is unlikely porcelain will crack from general usage.

Does porcelain require a lot of maintenance?

No, porcelain is low maintenance. Porcelain is a non-porous tile, meaning no water can be absorbed through the surface. As a result, porcelain tiles will maintain their colour and design regardless of the weather conditions (including intense sunlight and heavy rainfall) without any special maintenance required. This also means that the tiles are heavily stain resistant, so you simply have to clean the surface of the tiles every so often.
